The Grass Mountain Hobos

The Hobos first injected their generously rowdy energy into our Festival in 2008, winning Folk Fiesta! then taking the mainstage (and every other venue) by storm. The PEI group includes Josh Ellis on lead vocals and guitar, Peter Cann on guitar, Peter Webb on banjo, Thomas Webb on the big bass bull fiddle, Thomas Kirkham on mandolin, and the brilliantly playful Gordie MacKeeman on fiddle. The winners of 2010 ECMA Bluegrass Recording Artist of the Year and 2009 ECMA Bluegrass Album of the Year (Zoot!) got their start in 2007 and now have two recordings to their credit. They flirt and wrestle with swing, bluegrass, blues, and folk, drawing their listeners into a decades-old style that feels surprisingly current and tantalizingly adventurous.
